In history great adventurers such as Harbo and Samuelson, the first to row across the Atlantic from the US in 1896, the Wright Brothers who had the first powered flight in 1903 and Edmund Hilary the first person to reach the summit of Everest in 1953 were doubted by many.
Now Ben Hooper is aiming to make history and be the World’s first human to swim the full distance across the Atlantic Ocean; every single mile.
The swim will start in November 2016 and cover 2000 miles from Dakar in Senegal, West Africa to Natal, Brazil. Swimming up to 12 hours every day for up to 120 days, Ben will be tackling physical, mental, emotional and natural challenges.
The swim is to be verified by the Guinness Book of World Records.
Key objectives of the Swim The Big Blue expedition are not only to successfully complete his world record attempt but also to raise awareness of environmental and ocean issues, provide inspiration and create a grass roots sports foundation whilst raising a significant amount of money for his three charities: Maggie’s Cheltenham, SOS Children’s Villages and Addaction.
Working with the University North Carolina Wilmington and Hartpury College, UWE, the expedition will also conduct world class research in Psychology of Performance, Endurance Nutrition and Health, Expedition Medicine, Marine Biology, Oceanography and our Environment.
We are inviting you to be part of the exciting long distance Swim The Big Blue Trans Atlantic swimming adventure.
Simply Buy a Mile for Ben. Not only will you support Ben Hooper and his Swim The Big Blue Expedition; help raise £1 million for his three charities, you will be part of his Swim The Big Blue endurance swimming expedition.
